From the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park:

The baby otterMake this mother’s day an unforgettable experience for your mom, by celebrating it at the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park on Saturday, May 8th. At this event, mothers will be treated to complimentary zoo admission. The first hundred mothers’ to arrive will receive a free $25 manicure gift certificate from Head to Toe Salon & Day Spa, located in Endicott, NY.

This years’ event is very special, as we welcome a new baby otter to our zoo family. Elaine and Leroy, our river otter couple, gave birth to a baby boy on March 26th. Since then, the zoo staff has been working overtime to make sure that the baby boy is being well taken care of by his mother. During this event, visitors will get their first peek of the baby via video monitor, donated by Net2000 Computers, in Binghamton, NY. We will also be raffling off a framed baby picture, and accepting ideas for naming the new otter.

Other activities taking place during this event include free face-painting and animal spotlights. Children will also be able to create one-of-a-kind flower pots to give to their moms. Throughout the zoo, you will find information on mothers in the wild, and photographs by Elaine Washburn, one of our beloved and missed volunteers. We would like to thank Elaine’s' daughter, Angela Carpenter Gildner, for helping sponsor this event in her mothers’ memory.

The Binghamton Zoo has just recently celebrated its' 135th Grand Opening, and is now open every day of the week from 10am till 5pm (Ticket booth closes at 4pm).
