CLEARWATER, FL -- It sounds like a cute story: Aquarium staff feeding a tiny otter from a bottle. But folks at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium say this is an alarming trend.
North American river otters are not endangered. Due to decreased habitats, they are often found in residential neighborhoods or other populated areas. This is the second pup the aquarium has rescued in the past two weeks.
The latest otter now goes by the name Annie and she weighs just two pounds.
Experts are quick to warn, however, that if you see an otter, you should not immediately jump into rescue mode. Call the stranding line (727) 441-1790, ext. 234.
And coming up in April, CMA will host a presentation called "All About Otters" so you can learn more.
